Drakken is pleased to announce that it has completed the commissioning and start up of an integrated contract for fast track oil production facilities in Iraq, awarded in March 2011.  The contract included project and construction management, procurement, engineering, and commissioning activities - and spanned operations in North America, South East Asia, and the Middle East.

“This integrated project and construction management contract is key to our initial strategic focus in the Middle East and North Africa, further demonstrating our ability to compete and excel in the international market - especially in challenging operational areas.” said Ryan Arsenault, Director for Drakken.  Marcel Bruyere, Construction Manager for Drakken, commented that “the on-time start up of the facility was achieved amidst climatic and logistics challenges, without a lost time safety incident - a true accomplishment."  Mr Bruyere went further to explain that "the integrated structure of the Drakken site team and our business system allowed for on site processing of site QAQC documentation and the removal of traditional barriers between engineering and construction - reducing both the commissioning time line and costs to the owner."

About the Project.

The facility is a conventional  gas oil separation facility, being developed through a multi-phased approach. Phase 1 has a design capacity of 60,000 barrels of oil per day which entered into commercial production in 2010.  Phase 2 involved installation of an additional facility on a fast track basis, adjacent to Phase 1 and able to produce in excess of 30,000 bbl/day.

The field is located in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq approximately 60 km NE of Kirkuk, 85 km southeast of Erbil, and 120 km NW of Sulaimaniyah. The Development Block comprises an area of 639.7 sq.km (158,078 acres) within the licence area of approximately 951 square km. Exploration activities in this area began in the early 1960s with the drilling of the initial well which resulted in an oil discovery in 1978.
